In Cervières, in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, lies the Musée de l’Orée.

Comprising two distinct spaces, it explores the history of gold embroidery—once a specialty of the region’s villages—and offers insights into the regional landscape.

In the first space, the museum offers a hands-on area in the middle of the exhibition where visitors can try their hand at embroidery on antique embroidery looms. To enhance the experience, Drôle de Trame has created tutorials for adults and children.

A documentary film then profiles a young embroiderer, who recounts her journey while creating a traditional gold-thread embroidery piece.

Interview videos round out the space: former grenadières and contemporary embroiderers share their perspectives on the evolution of the craft.

Finally, a film showcases the artistry of liturgical embroidery, capturing the gold, silver, and shimmering colors of these treasures through macro photography.

The second space is an Architecture and Heritage Interpretation Center that showcases the diversity of the Forez landscapes through a sensory journey through the region’s scenery.

Several digital installations punctuate the journey:

A projection mapping animation of a relief model that helps visitors understand the evolution of human settlement in the Forez.

An immersive triple-screen film presents five Forez landscapes across the four seasons.

A slideshow immerses visitors in unique perspectives of the Forez landscapes.
