For more than thirty years, Joël Le Scouarnec sexually abused children in a dozen French hospitals. In 2025, his extraordinary trial revealed the scale of the largest child sex abuse case ever tried in France: 299 victims. However, despite the maximum sentence, a feeling of incompleteness prevails. Too much silence, too much anonymity, too few answers. Most of the victims remember nothing. Too young, or under anaesthesia at the time of the events, they grew up with buried traumas, without words to name them. The trial acts as an electric shock, reopening deep wounds but also giving rise to an unexpected collective strength.
‘Breaking the Silence: Rebuilding After Le Scouarnec’ gives a voice to those who have not been heard enough. The film follows three victims who embody this reconstruction:
Manon, now 35, was 11 at the time of the events and is willing to do anything to bring the group's voice to the public arena. She devotes herself body and soul to the group so that she no longer has to think about herself.
Gabriel, now 35, was 5 at the time of the events. He puts his gentleness at the service of others by creating psychological support structures.
Marion, now 41, was 12 at the time of the events. Like many other victims, she has no memory of the assaults.
