The Guimet Museum is presenting, for the first time in Europe, an exhibition on the Silla Kingdom (57 BCE–935 CE), one of East Asia’s most brilliant civilizations.
This unprecedented exhibition sheds light on a kingdom where, for nearly a millennium, art, spirituality, and power converged to shape a culture of remarkable richness.
Upon entering, the mythical origins of Silla are brought to life in an immersive experience. On two walls of the introductory room, two large 7-meter-long projections interact with one another, unfolding a narrative through animation.
Then, in the next room, a wireframe animation film reveals the secrets behind the construction of an impressive burial mound.
At the end of the exhibition, a final immersive installation invites visitors to reflect. In a recreation of Seokguram Grotto (a UNESCO World Heritage Site), a projection onto sheer tulle, accompanied by a soundtrack and synchronized lighting effects, brings the figure of the Buddha to life.
Two other original sound compositions were also created, blending sound design with traditional Korean musical instruments.
