OCÉANOPOLIS, A METAMORPHOSIS

THE TROPICAL PAVILION

For two years, the Océanopolis team shared with us their knowledge of marine environments, as well as the footage they had filmed, year after year, in aquariums and in the wild—from the Brest harbor to the warm seas of Tahiti.  Using this previously unseen footage of exceptional beauty, we have created several exhibits that enhance the visitor experience at the aquariums and deepen our understanding of marine life.

-    An immersive and poetic show, directed by Charles Carcopino, tells the story of how marine microorganisms populate the tropical seas on full moon nights. A teeming, multifaceted, and colorful world of life unfolds across several reflective screens.

-    An educational film takes viewers behind the scenes at Océanopolis, showing the journey of seawater through the aquariums—from when it’s pumped in until it’s returned to the sea.

-    Several audio narrations offer a poetic interlude and invite visitors to dive into the scientific and offbeat world of David Wahl.

-    An interactive hand-crank display allows visitors to admire coral growth in time-lapse and discover the conditions necessary for its survival. It features footage of corals cultivated in the aquarium, filmed over a two-year period by the Océanopolis teams.

-    Finally, we’ve developed a program that presents all the species housed at Océanopolis on digital display panels, updated in real time by the site’s teams.
